Can You Use Binance Without KYC? Verification Comes First, and Unverified Accounts Drop to Withdraw Only

Search this and you will find page after page saying Binance does not really require verification. That does not match the official help page. The real answer splits in two: a new account cannot be used at all until verified, and an old unverified one is cut back to taking money out.

Skipping verification is not skipping paperwork. It leaves the account stopped at the gate, and what it can still do is set out in the terms.

Straight to it: under Binance’s current published rules, an unverified account cannot be used normally. Two cases, and they differ:

  • A newly registered account: verification is a precondition for access. The official wording is “all new users are required to complete [Verified] to access Binance products and service offerings, including cryptocurrency deposits and trades.” Without it, deposits and trading do not open.
  • An existing, never-verified account: permissions are “temporarily changed to ‘Withdraw Only’, with services limited to fund withdrawal, order cancelation, position close, and redemption.” You can get funds out and close what is open; depositing and trading are off.

So “can I use it” is really what do you want to use it for. If the answer is buying, depositing or trading, then unverified means unusable.

Correcting a claim that travels widely

The results for this question are dominated by near-identical low-quality pages and Q&A posts filed as issues on unrelated code repositories, and one line recurs: that Binance does not actually require identity verification.

It conflicts with the official page, which uses “are required to” rather than a recommendation. The Terms of Use put it even more plainly at clause 7.3: you must first provide the relevant information and complete the verification process before you are permitted to open a Binance Account and access and use the Binance Services.

Verification is not a nice-to-have that raises limits. It is the condition for having and using the account at all. When you meet a claim to the contrary, it is worth checking what it cites.

New accounts: verification is a precondition

People assume that a completed sign-up means a usable account. Registration and verification are separate: registration creates the account, but whether you can deposit or trade depends on verification passing.

That also explains a common confusion — “I registered, so why does the deposit button do nothing?” Usually that is not a fault; standard verification simply has not cleared. To walk the whole route in order see the Binance sign-up guide, and for verification itself the KYC walkthrough.

Old accounts: switched to Withdraw Only

If your account dates from years ago and was never verified, Binance handles that case specifically: permissions move to Withdraw Only, keeping four operations — withdrawal, order cancelation, position close, redemption.

Account permissions while standard verification is incomplete (official wording; go by what your account shows)

Order cancelationTrading
Position closeOther products and services that require verification
Redemption

The intent is legible: you are not blocked from retrieving your own funds, but you cannot put more in or keep trading. So if this is your account, leaving assets parked is not the safer option — either complete verification and restore normal use, or use the Withdraw Only permissions to move the assets out.

Does staying unverified get you banned?

Binance does not equate being unverified with a ban, but the Terms set out where the boundary sits:

  • Clause 8.1: to comply with applicable law and verification requirements, or to detect money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud or other financial crime, Binance may request information from you at any time.
  • Clause 8.2: your access and your trading limits change continuously based on the information collected.
  • Clause 8.3: if you refuse to provide requested information, or do not provide it in time, Binance reserves the right to immediately suspend or terminate access without notice.

In other words: being unverified first costs you permissions; not cooperating once information is requested is what opens the door to more. Leaving it indefinitely lets the exposure build.

What verification takes, and how long

Rather than looking for a way around it, it helps to see how heavy the thing actually is. The documented flow:

  1. Choose your country of residence, and the issuing country and type of your document;
  2. Upload the front and back of the document;
  3. Complete the face check (camera on, no hat or glasses, good lighting);
  4. Confirm your personal details — Binance notes these cannot be changed once confirmed, so read them before you submit;
  5. Wait for review.

On timing, the page says “submitted documents are usually reviewed within 48 hours. However, it may take longer in some particular cases.” If it sits in review, see how long review takes; if it comes back rejected, see appealing a rejected verification.

Why buying an account does not work

Faced with a hard requirement, some people look for a pre-verified account to buy, or a relative’s identity to verify with. We are against it, and not on moralising grounds — on the terms and on who actually controls the account:

  • Clause 9.2 requires you to ensure that any Binance account registered in your name is not used by anyone other than you. On a bought account the name on it is not yours, so this fails from the outset.
  • Clause 27 requires the documents and information you provide to be true, accurate, complete and up to date. Clearing verification on someone else’s papers conflicts with it directly.
  • And practically: the account is not yours in law or in control. The original holder can start recovery whenever they choose, and if risk controls intervene, neither the funds nor the account are in your hands — nor do you have standing to claim them.

If what actually blocks you is something concrete — a document you cannot find, proof of address you cannot produce — those are solvable; see the document checklist and proof of address. Using someone else’s identity is not a solution.

Where this comes from

The official material here comes from the Binance help centre and Terms of Use, opened on 27 August 2026 and checked in both English and Chinese; the links are below. While writing this we did not log into any Binance account and did not submit verification under any identity, so the article does not walk through the verification screens and does not cite personal experience or reader reports we cannot produce. One sourcing limit worth stating: Binance published an older announcement about changes to its verification requirements, but that announcement URL now redirects to the announcement index and its body could not be retrieved, so everything quoted here comes only from pages that currently open — the help page and the Terms. Permission modes, review times and clause numbers change; go by the official page at the time you act. We do not publish ways around identity verification.

Questions people ask

Can I still use Binance without completing identity verification?

Not as a normal account. The help page states that “all new users are required to complete [Verified] to access Binance products and service offerings, including cryptocurrency deposits and trades.” So on a newly registered account, deposits and trading are closed until verification passes. The claim circulating online that Binance does not require verification does not match the official page.

What about older accounts that were never verified?

Binance sets that out explicitly: “existing users who haven’t completed the [Verified] verification will have their account permissions temporarily changed to ‘Withdraw Only,’ with services limited to fund withdrawal, order cancelation, position close, and redemption.” The account is not confiscated — you can take funds out and close what is open, but you cannot deposit or trade.

Will an unverified account simply be banned?

Binance does not equate “unverified” with a ban, but the Terms give it room to act. Clause 8.3 states that if you refuse to provide requested information or fail to provide it in time, Binance “reserves the right to immediately suspend or terminate your access to your Binance Account or all or part of the Binance Services without notice.” Clause 8.2 adds that your access and trading limits change continuously based on the information collected.

What does verification require, and how long does it take?

The documented flow is: choose your country of residence and the issuing country and type of your document; upload the front and back of the document; complete the face check (camera on, no hat or glasses, good lighting); confirm your personal details — note that Binance says these cannot be changed once confirmed; then wait for review. On timing the page says “submitted documents are usually reviewed within 48 hours. However, it may take longer in some particular cases.”

Can I buy a verified account or verify with someone else’s identity?

No, and the exposure is entirely yours. Clause 9.2 of the Terms requires you to “ensure that any Binance account registered in your name is not used by anyone other than you”, and clause 27 requires the documents and information you provide to be true, accurate, complete and up to date. An account opened on another person’s identity is not yours in law or in practice: the original holder can start recovery at any time, and if risk controls step in, neither the funds nor the account are in your hands. We are against this without qualification.
