Binance Age Requirement: 18 Is in the Terms, and There Is an Official Route for Under-18s
Almost every answer online stops at “you must be 18, so wait”. True, and only half the picture — since December 2025 Binance has run a supervised account for ages 6 to 17 where the parent stays the legal owner. Two different questions, two different answers.
Independent guide · Not affiliated with Binance · Not investment advice
The question gets asked as one thing but is really two, and they have opposite answers:
- Can a minor open their own Binance account? No. The Terms require individual users to be at least 18.
- Can a minor hold crypto within Binance at all? Yes — but through Binance Junior, a supervised sub-account opened by a parent who remains the legal owner.
Most results answer only the first half. Binance Junior launched on 3 December 2025, and a lot of the pages ranking for this question were written before it existed.
What the Terms actually say
The age rule is not a form validation. It appears twice in the Terms of Use:
- Clause 2.1(b) (eligibility): “if you are an individual, you shall be at least 18 years old”.
- Clause 27(h) (representations and warranties): “if you are an individual, you are not under 18 years old”.
The second placement matters. Putting age among the representations means that accepting the terms is itself a statement that you qualify. Entering a false date of birth is not slipping past a form; it is making a false statement in that agreement, which is a different act with different consequences.
The check happens at verification, not sign-up
People assume that getting through sign-up means they are fine. The sign-up screen never asks your age; the place age is actually established is identity verification, where the document you upload carries your date of birth.
So “the account was created” is not the same as “this is permitted”. For what verification involves, see the Binance KYC walkthrough; for what each tier unlocks, see verification levels and limits.
The official route: Binance Junior
Per the official FAQ, the Binance Junior account is “a family-centric and secure way for parents to introduce crypto to their kids”, structured as a sub-account under a parent’s master account. The essentials:
- Child’s age: 6 to 17, or higher depending on local laws.
- Parent’s prerequisites: an existing Binance user who has completed KYC and enabled two-factor authentication.
- The parent remains the legal owner of the account.
- Regional limits: availability “is subject to local legal and regulatory requirements”, and the age thresholds for Junior-to-Junior transfers vary by country.
This product is still moving: the English FAQ shows published 3 December 2025 and updated 16 May 2026, and the Chinese version updated 13 April 2026. Age thresholds, available regions and features are whatever the official page shows when you look — do not rely on any second-hand summary, including this one.
What a child can and cannot do
This table is the part worth keeping — it shows exactly how supervised “supervised” is:
| Category | Detail |
|---|---|
| Can | Earn crypto through Junior Flexible Simple Earn; receive transfers from the parent account or on-chain deposits; receive fixed-type red packets by scanning a QR code |
| From age 13 | Transfer between Junior accounts and parent accounts, subject to a 400 USD daily payment limit |
| Cannot | Trade on the exchange |
| Cannot | Make on-chain withdrawals |
| Cannot | Pay adults other than the parent |
| Cannot | Access certain merchant categories, such as gambling |
The design intent is legible: no exchange trading and no on-chain withdrawal on the child’s side — the ways funds leave stay with the parent. That is also why the parent has to be verified with 2FA enabled before any of it starts.
Naming an earn product here is description, not endorsement of any return or of capital safety. Crypto prices move sharply, and any arrangement involving a child is the parent’s judgement and the parent’s responsibility. Nothing here is investment advice.
What the Terms say about a false age
Some pages ranking for this query promise “solutions” for under-18s. We do not publish ways around the age requirement; what follows is only what the agreement itself sets out:
- Clause 20.1(b)(iv): information that is “wrong, untrue, out of date or incomplete” is a ground for Binance to terminate, suspend or restrict your access.
- Clause 8.3: where information is refused or not provided in time, Binance may suspend or terminate access immediately and without notice.
- Clause 20.2(b): “Binance is under no obligation to disclose the details of its risk management and security procedures” — so you may not be told why.
- Clause 20.4: in cases involving unlawful possession, Binance may (but is not obliged to) freeze the affected funds and the account until it receives evidence it finds acceptable that you are entitled to them.
- Clause 20.3(c): reactivating a suspended or restricted account requires repaying everything owed first.
Read together, the real exposure is not “the sign-up fails”. It is money already inside an account that then gets restricted, possibly without an explanation.
Lending a parent account is not the same thing
The obvious shortcut — a parent opens a normal account and lets the child use it — runs directly into clause 9.2, which requires you to “ensure that any Binance account registered in your name is not used by anyone other than you”.
Binance Junior works because it is the opposite arrangement: an official structure, legal ownership explicitly with the parent, and a child side that is limited by design. Sharing the credentials of an ordinary account has none of those properties. The same reasoning applies to opening extra accounts on a relative’s identity — see email already registered.
Why this is so badly covered in English
Worth naming, because it explains the contradictory answers you will have read. Searching this question in English returns mostly:
- Q&A content farms — near-identical pages restating “you must be 18” across a dozen slightly different question titles.
- A competing exchange’s news page — one of the more substantive descriptions of Binance Junior we found ranking was published by another exchange, not by Binance.
Neither is a source to act on for a Binance product. Everything quoted in this article is linked at the bottom so you can open the official page yourself.
If you are not 18 yet
If this is about you: wait until you meet the age requirement. That is the only compliant answer, and there is plenty worth doing in the meantime — understanding how custody, risk and basic account security work is more useful than rushing an account. When you do qualify, walk the process in order with the Binance sign-up guide.
If you are a parent: Binance Junior is the official channel, but whether it is available where you live and whether it suits your family is your call. The decision and the responsibility sit with the parent — which is exactly why Binance keeps legal ownership there.
The official material here comes from the Binance Terms of Use and the Binance Junior help page, both opened on 26 August 2026 and checked in English and Chinese; the links are below. While writing this we did not log into any Binance account, did not open a Junior account, and did not submit a registration or verification under any identity, so the article does not walk through the set-up screens and does not cite personal experience or reader reports we cannot produce. Clause numbers, age thresholds, feature boundaries and regional availability all change — the official page at the time you act is what counts. We do not publish ways around the age requirement.
Questions people ask
How old do you have to be to open a Binance account?
The Terms of Use set it out twice. Clause 2.1(b) requires that “if you are an individual, you shall be at least 18 years old”, and clause 27(h) repeats it as a representation and warranty you give to Binance: “if you are an individual, you are not under 18 years old”. Accepting the terms is itself a statement that you meet the age requirement, so this is not a page check to be worked around.
So minors have no route into Binance at all?
That is not correct any more. In December 2025 Binance launched Binance Junior, aimed at children aged 6 to 17 (or higher where local law requires), opened as a sub-account under a parent’s master account. Binance states that the parent remains the legal owner of the account, and the parent must be an existing user who has completed KYC and enabled two-factor authentication. Availability is subject to local legal and regulatory requirements.
What can and cannot a child do inside Binance Junior?
Per the official FAQ, a child can earn crypto through Junior Flexible Simple Earn, receive transfers from the parent account or on-chain deposits, and receive fixed-type red packets by scanning a QR code. From age 13 they can transfer between Junior accounts and parent accounts, subject to a 400 USD daily payment limit. They cannot trade on the exchange, cannot make on-chain withdrawals, cannot pay adults other than their parent, and cannot access certain merchant categories such as gambling.
What happens if someone signs up with a false date of birth?
The Terms spell out the consequences. Clause 20.1(b)(iv) lists information that is “wrong, untrue, out of date or incomplete” as a ground for Binance to terminate, suspend or restrict access. Clause 8.3 allows immediate suspension or termination without notice where information is refused or not supplied in time. Clause 20.2(b) adds that Binance has no obligation to disclose the details of its risk management and security procedures, so you may never be told the reason. We do not publish ways around the age requirement.
Can a parent just open a normal account and let their child use it?
No, and it is the opposite of how Binance Junior is built. Clause 9.2 of the Terms requires you to “ensure that any Binance account registered in your name is not used by anyone other than you”. Binance Junior works precisely because it is an official structure where the parent stays the legal owner and the child side is limited by design. Handing over the credentials of a normal account is not the same thing.
From public Binance material, opened 26 August 2026: clause 2.1(b) “at least 18 years old”, clause 27(h) “you are not under 18 years old”, clause 9.2 on accounts not being used by anyone other than you, and clauses 20.1(b)(iv), 8.3, 20.2(b), 20.3(c) and 20.4 all come from the Binance Terms of Use; the description of Binance Junior, the 6–17 age range, the requirement that the parent has completed KYC and enabled 2FA, the parent remaining legal owner, the can/cannot boundary, the 400 USD daily payment limit from age 13, and the regional availability caveat come from Frequently Asked Questions on Binance Junior (published 2025-12-03, updated 2026-05-16).
Splitting the question in two, and the judgements in this article, are ours rather than Binance’s; naming an earn product is description and not an endorsement of returns or capital safety. Clause numbers and feature boundaries are whatever the official page shows when you use it.
